The Latest News from The Arbeau Dancers
We had a fabulous time at Lincoln Castle on 23rd and 24th April 2016, for the Victorian-style St George's Day celebrations. As well as our dancing, there was live music from the wonderful Hautbois duo, and a host of other entertainment including a new interpretation of the story of our patron saint and a re-enactment of the slaying of the fearsome dragon.
Visitors to the castle got to see how the Victorians treated convicts with tours of the terrifying prison - somewhat apt in view of the fact that the local courthouse is in the castle grounds.
Arbeau dancers performed a variety of dances that were popular in Victorian times, including Quadrilles and some of the queen's much beloved Scottish dances such as De'il Amang the Tailors and a selection of rants many of which are still popular today. As always, at the end of each performance, we invited people to join us for a simple dance and a good time was had by all.
Step into the lavish world of Georgian life. Dress to impress and join fellow Georgians for games, dancing and a leisurely promenade along the Terrace. At 1pm enjoy live traditional music as the Arbeau Dancers demonstrate the latest dances at court, dressed in their finest Georgian attire. You can even have a go yourself as we show you the steps.
